Abstract
It is reported each year that a large number of silos, bins and hoppers fail due to bad design, poor construction or improper use. Many failures are the results of loading conditions not correctly accounted for and applied by the designer. This paper describes design procedures that have been found to be successful with computer aided design. In particular, the paper covers the design of a main silo and interstice walls for three loading cases.
