Focus and Scope

The Journal ‘ENGINEER’, a quarterly journal has been established by The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, to publish articles of value and interest to Engineers and contribute to the advancement of the Profession of Engineering. Articles would be based on Engineering research and applications, review of past practices, information of current interest, or probing into new fields of Engineering activity. They shall be presentations of thought provoking study contributing to planning, analysis, design, construction/fabrication/production, management and/or maintenance of Engineering developments. Section I is dedicated for articles based on Engineering Research while Section II is intended for articles of Professional Interest.

Engineer does not charge for evaluation, review or publication of materials. The total cost of publication is borne by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.

The journal is published quarterly (January, April, July & October)

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Archiving Policy

This journal is available for LOCKSS harvesting, to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. See LOCKSS harvesting start page.


  • ENGINEER, established in 1973, by the Instituion of Engineers, Sri Lanka, is a Quarterly Journal, launched to further the publication culture of this professional body in the form of annual technical transactions, dating back to 1906.
  • Primary objective of the Journal is the facilitation of the members of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka to dessiminate their professional and research knowledge.
  • ENGINEER, has been featuring in the Sri Lanka Journals on Line (SLJOL) from 2014 onwards with back issues from 2005 onwards.
  • ENGINEER, is indexed and abstracted in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) by Thomson Reuters and Clarivate Analytics services from 2017 onwards.
